Cuminum cyminum

Picture
Cistus Incantus
  • Polyphenols have antibacterial properties. Cistus is a tea rich in polyphenols."Cistus-tea may be used to reduce the initial bacterial adhesion in the oral cavity."(Hannig, Spitzmüller, Al-Ahmad, & Hannig, 2008) C. incanus might reduce the risk of caries disease.
  • Cistus Incantus extracts show potent and broad in vitro antiviral activity against viruses that cause life-threatening diseases in humans and are promising sources of agents that target virus particles. "Our results demonstrate that Ci extract has potent antiviral activity against HIV and Ebola virus and indicate that Ci extract contains multiple compounds that prevent these viruses from entering host cells for replication."(Rebensburg et al., 2016) Polyphenols are crucial for anti-HIV activity.
  • "the in vitro antibacterial activity of the C. incanus accelerated solvent extracts against Streptococcus mutans, one of the primary cariogenic bacterial species, was examined using a live/dead assay (BacLight®). With this approach, C. incanus yielded antibacterial properties." (Wittpahl et al., 2015)
  • "The highest concentrations of bioactive compounds in the infusions were yielded when leafy parts with a small particle size were used for brewing."(Riehle, Rusche, Saake, & Rohn, 2014)
  • "Due to having inhibitory effect on blood glucose level and carbohydrate digesting enzymes (α-glucosidase and α-amylase), Cistus laurifolius leaves might be beneficial for diabetic patients." (Orhan, Aslan, Şüküroğlu, & Deliorman Orhan, 2013)
